Barbara A. (Degrange) Dunayeski, 82, of Blackstone, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 13 following a long illness.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Thomas M. Dunayeski for sixty-one years and the loving mother of Sharon Putnam and her husband, Jeffrey, of Blackstone; Heidi Jalbert and her husband, Wade, of Blackstone; and Thomas Dunayeski II of Blackstone and his long-time girlfriend Michelle Villemaire of Uxbridge. She was the grandmother of Andrew and Allison Jalbert and Abigail and Benjamin Putnam.
She is survived by her brother Albert Degrange, Jr. of Mansfield and her sister Dorothy Degrange of Plainville. She was predeceased by her sister Carol Sims and brother Raymond Degrange.
Born in Woonsocket, Barbara was the daughter of Albert and Anna (Susla) Degrange. A life-long Blackstone resident, she graduated from Blackstone High School and was a communicant at St. Theresa’s Church. Prior to her retirement, she worked for Stop & Shop supermarkets for over fifty years and was active in the United Food and Commercial Workers Local #328 as union steward and served on its board of directors.
In addition to camping and playing Scrabble, Barbara loved hairdressing, cake decorating and oil painting. She always enjoyed helping others, especially feeding her family and caring for stray cats.
She will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends.
Her Funeral will be Friday, (Jan. 19, 2024) at 10:00 AM from the Kubaska Funeral Home 33 Harris Ave. Woonsocket, RI, with a Mass of Divine Liturgy at 11:00AM in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 394 Blackstone St. Woonsocket, RI. Burial will be in St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery. Bellingham, MA. Relatives & Friends are invited. Visitation hours are Thursday, (JAN. 18th) from 4:00 to 8:00PM.
